What are Lipolite Deoxycholate injections?

Lipolite injections reduce the size of localized fat deposits and cause skin tightening in the area treated. It is not a treatment for weight reduction but rather a procedure for improving shape and reducing specific fatty areas.

Deoxycholate is present in the body as sodium deoxycholate, a bile salt that aids in the breakdown of fat. When deoxycholate is injected into a specific area it disrupts the fat cell membrane causing the cells to burst. This releases enzymes and fatty content triggering an inflammatory response. The resulting debris is broken down and eliminated via the lymphatic system.

The treatment is generally well tolerated. A very small gauge needle is used and most people experience only mild discomfort. Common side-effects are burning or stinging, bruising and tender nodules under the skin which may be palpated while the process takes place until the fat has been excreted.
